James Zanewicz returned to Tulane in 2015 after establishing the open science functions for the HHMI Janelia Research Campus. As the originator of the Chief Business Officer role at Tulane, he serves as the principal business development strategist and engagement officer to industry, venture capital and other external collaborators.
James has a B.S. in chemistry from Centre College, a J.D. from Tulane University Law School and an LLM in Intellectual Property and Media Policy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is also trained in Science Policy and Leadership from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and he previously spent over 20 years in the private and academic sectors, including: HHMI, Rhone-Poulenc/ Rhorer, CompuServe, Warner Bros., the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and the University of Louisville.
His service to the profession has included chairing the University/Corporate Discussion group for BIO; serving on the Boards of NACRO, the BioJudiciary Project and AUTM; and currently chairing the Board for ATTP – the international knowledge and technology transfer standards/accreditation organization.
